Harper's War on Art: Artist's Prepare to Fight Back

Stephen Harper only wants for himself what he wants for all of us, namely to be American. That is the only reason I can think of for the absolute venom he has shown toward anything that smacks of a unique or identifiable Canadian culture. After at total of nearly 14 million in two weeks, it is feared that his government plans a further 50 million in cuts and now Harper wants to go to the polls (before Obama gets elected) on a pro-Bush, pro-War, screw the environment, let's all hate art and become the 51st state platform.

Fortunately the opposition to Harper's plans is gearing up. The Council of Canadians has sent an appeal to it's membership and meetings are being planned by others at the grass roots level. On Wednesday, September 3rd at 7pm a meeting will take place at the Theatre Centre, 1087 Queen Street West (South East Corner of Queen and Dovercourt) the meeting will bring together representatives from Government with individuals from the visual arts, film, video and performing arts to discuss strategies to stop Harper's plans to kill Canadian culture.
