Canadian Fair Media Coalition

It is nearly election time, you can smell it in the air. With the Conservatives making nearly everything a confidence motion and the Liberals under increasing pressure to either fight an election or replace their leader it has to happen soon. In advance of that election, whether it is called a month from now or six months from now, I am calling for a "Canadian Fair Media Coalition" to pressure all Canadian political parties to put important arts, media and cultural issues on the table for this election.

In short I would like to see:

  • The death of Bill C-10

  • Comprehensive Federal Net Neutrality Legislation

  • A new, completely rewritten Fair Copyright reform bill, one that is fair to both producers and consumers.

  • Quick implementation in full of the Heritage Committee recommendations for the CBC

  • Overall increased funding for arts and culture in Canada

  • and a change in the way arts and culture are taxed to make it easier for Canadian artists to make a living.

  • I do not know everyones issues and am certainly willing to amend this list, but it is past time to get the discussion started. Naturally, as those of you who know me would expect, I've created a facebook group to organize with http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13606998691.
