I actually found out about this awhile ago through Hugh McGuire's blog and have been meaning to mention it.
Earideas is a currated collection of the best audio available online. Or, in Hugh's own words:
* it’s a curated collection - only the very best quality is in there * it’s targeted - the collection slants to public radio, “for thinkin’ folks” * it’s built for people who don’t know or care what a “podcast” is * it’s easy to use (we hope) … designed to pass rigorous Mom UI testing standards * it updates with new shows daily, and you can listen on our site * we’ll do a weekly round-up (on our blog, and later by email) of three of the best bits of audio from our directory
So basically they pull really good, smart audio content from around the world and make it easy to listen to on the earideas.com site. So if you don't have any idea what a podcast is, or a XML feed, don't have iTunes or an MP3 player etc. you're still safe. All you have to do is decide what you want to listen to and press play.
I've also added the Earideas: the Blog to the podcast section. It is not, itself, a podcast but it will list the latest additions to the Earideas site.
