Will Oil Sink Alberta?

I hear alot that Alberta wants the rest of Canada to leave them and their oil wealth alone. That's fine, I get that, Alberta's been through some hard economic times in the past and now that they've turned things around they want us to keep our mitts off of their cash. What I wonder though is how they'll feel about it if the process of extracting the oil turns Alberta into a wasteland where you can't grow anything, drink the water or breathe the air. It would appear that that's the direction they are headed in.

As reported by the CBC a new study out today from the Pembina Institute and the World Wildlife Fund gives 9 out of 10 oilsands producers a failing grade on the environment.
"No company scored better than 50 per cent on the five water-related questions, and only three scored any marks at all for plans to deal with greenhouse gas production, with Albian's existing Muskeg mine racking up a 66 per cent grade."
