The Summerworks Festival "Toronto's indie theatre and arts Festival" is coming to toronto August 7 - 17.
The Theatre portion of the bill will feature 42 juried plays from a variety of Toronto and other Canadian theatre artists. Sadly I don't know enough about any of them to fill you in on what you should see (if someone wants to educate me here feel free). A full list of productions is available at http://www.summerworks.ca/2008/festival-theatre.php.
The music portion I'm a little more educated on. It is sponsored by CBC Radio 3 and, if you don't want to miss the best parts, you should really go to all of them. The lineup looks like this:

Come for 5 minutes or revel for the whole two hours in this artistic funhouse. Be sure to come back for the nightly rotation of special guests.
More information on Summerworks is available at Summerworks.ca or through their blog at summerworks.wordpress.com. Ticket info is at http://www.summerworks.ca/2008/tickets.php.
