This Saturday, August 9th, following the 3:20 matinee screening of the film Amal at the Varsity Cinema (55 Bloor West in Toronto) the First Weekend Club will present a Q & A session and a reception with the makers of the film.
In summary:
Amal is a content, humble and dedicated auto rickshaw driver maneuvering the streets of New Delhi. Through a chance encounter with a passenger who appears to be a homeless grumpy old man but turns out to be an eccentric, aging billionaire, Amal's life is turned upside down. The billionaire, who is moved by Amal's humility, bequeaths him his entire estate before passing away. Amal has only a month to claim his inheritance. And he is not the only one who seeks to claim a share of the riches.
Filmed on location in New Delhi, the film takes a close look at contemporary India and its culture through an unlikely character. AMAL also challenges the perception of "wealth" and the value of material things in our lives. As the film's tagline states: "Sometimes the poorest of men are the riches."
The film, as I've said, starts at 3:20 followed immediately by a Q & A session with Richie Mehta (director/co-writer), Rupinder Nagra (leading star), Shaun Mehta (co-writer), David Miller (producer), and Steven Bray (producer). Following the Q & A hold on to your movie ticket stub and meet for a post-screening reception at the Drake Hotel (1142 Queen St. West), 7pm-10pm.

Yes! Now this was a great movie. A few of these actors have been in 'Monsoon Wedding' and Deepak Mehta's 'Water', and those are fantastic movies too. (Please tell me you've seen 'Water') Thanks for posting this info about the meet & greet at the theatre. See you there.
